At least 30 students were injured when violent clashes erupted during a student demonstration at Egypt's Mansoura University, the university hospital said. A group of students that the demonstrators called "thugs" descended upon the protesters and beat them with wooden sticks, belts and other weaponry, Bikyamasr.com, an Egyptian-based Web site reported Wednesday. The protest was directed at the dean of the College of Arts Tuesday but the students have been calling for the resignation of all deans and university leaders associated with the regime of ousted President Hosni Mubarak. Last week, a car carrying Dean Mohamed Ghoneim of the College of Arts crashed into a crowd of protesting students, injuring 15 people. The students were attempting to block Ghoneim's car from entering the campus for the university's presidential election. Mansoura is located 75 miles northeast of Cairo.
