UAE's flag was hoisted on Friday at the venue of the 26th Summer Universiade held in Shenzhen, in the Guangdong province of China. The flag hoisting ceremony was attended by Dr. Nasser Al Amiri, Head of the delegation representing the Sports Federation of Higher Educational institutions, and the athletes participating in the world event. The sports gala got underway as Chinese President Hu Jintao declared the 26th Summer Universiade open in China's southern city on Friday. With the slogan of "Start Here, Make a Difference", the Shenzhen games have attracted more than 7,800 athletes from 152 countries and regions across the world. Promised to be the largest-ever games in the history of Universiade, the event will last until 24th this month. On another level, UAE was elected to be a member in the Board of Directors of the International University Sports Federation. This is the second time UAE has been elected to the Board of the Federation. Board member Dr. Omer Al-Hai said that he was voted from among 30 candidates and won 83 votes from a total of 140 countries.
