French authorities on Wednesday condemned the latest in a series of extremist attacks against schools in northeast Nigeria, believed to be the work of Islamist radical group Boko Haram, according to local security forces.
"France condemns the attack targeted against a secondary school in Potiskum (north-eastern Nigeria) on November 10 which caused a tragic death toll; approximately 50 people were killed," the French Foreign Ministry said here.
Boko Haram, whose name means "Against Western Education", has carried out numerous attacks and kidnappings in the region.
"We extend our condolences to the victims' families as well as to the Nigerian authorities. The perpetrators of this barbaric act, who targeted young people, must be held accountable for their actions," the French statement said.
France said that it stands alongside Nigeria in the fight against terrorism.
