Tokyo - UPI

A poll of Japanese college students found that one in five students have contemplated suicide during the job-hunting process. The poll, conducted by the Tokyo-based group Lifelink and released Friday, also found that of 122 undergraduate, graduate, and vocational college students questioned, 80 percent said they felt anxiety during their job search, The Japan Times reported. Sixty-nine percent of respondents said they felt that honesty and hard work were not rewarded in Japan. "These problems lead to greater issues after they get jobs," said Lifelink founder Yasuyuki Shimizu. "They have a strong sense of distrust of society to begin with, which leads them to think they must have full-time employment to defend themselves. When they are able to become full-time employees (right out of college), they feel as if they must put up with anything to hold onto that job. And others who couldn't get full-time employment are driven to think they are worthless."
