His Majesty King Abdullah met here on Thursday with US intellectuals and academic figures and reviewed with them the latest developments in the Middle East and his vision on these issues.
The King affirmed that the war on terrorism is a joint interest because everyone is a target of terrorist organizations.
Addressing the peace efforts, the King said that making peace requires courage from all sides and demands more international efforts to help the Palestinians and Israelis sit down at the negotiating table to implement the two-state solution.
On Syria, the King spoke of the escalating situation there and its fallout in the region, mainly for the neighboring countries, including Jordan, which is hosting a large and growing number of Syrian refugees. The King highlighted the pressure those refugees had placed on the Kingdom’s limited resources.
His Majesty also noted all developments in the Middle East, while stressing the need to support Egypt in playing its role as a regional leader.
On Iraq, the King highlighted the need to support the efforts being exerted to enhance security and stability as well as the accord among all segments of Iraqi society.
Meanwhile, the King briefed the US intellectuals and academic figures on the domestic challenges facing Jordan---mainly with regard to the poverty and unemployment levels---while highlighting the US support of Jordan.
"Jordan is pressing ahead with its reform programs despite the regional challenges," the King said.
The US guests praised the King’s efforts to achieve peace between the Palestinians and Israelis as well as the US efforts within the international coalition to fight terrorism and extremism.
