A Kuwaiti student was honored for his efforts at the Riviera Beach Volunteer Fire Company in the State of Maryland, earning him the "Rookie of the Year Award." Speaking to KUNA via phone, volunteer Firefighter and EMT at the Riviera Beach Volunteer Fire Company Dari Al-Huwail said that he was very proud of this achievement, noting that the honoring reflected the humane spirit of the Kuwaiti people.
On his part, Kuwaiti Ambassador to Washington Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said that Al-Huwail had set an example for being a good representative of the Kuwaiti people, calling on all students to follow his footsteps.
A similar statement was echoed by head of administration at the National Union of Kuwaiti Students (NUKS) - USA Branch, Mohammad Al-Zayed who stressed that Al-Huwail reflected Kuwait's youth determination to help others.
Both the Kuwaiti Embassy and NUKS honored Al-Huwail for his achievement which was covered by the Capital Gazette on January 22, 2015.
At Riviera Beach Fire Company annual event, David Lewis, an honorary member of the company and a past-president of the Maryland State Fireman's Association said that "This year's Rookie of the year has showed so much perseverance and initiative, it's hard to imagine this award going to anyone else. He [Al-Huwail] joined this company October 2012, and came out of the gates running."
