Under the Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) School Program, QRC's Social Development Department is implementing ADEPTS, a school training program designed to create a leader, effective, and productive personality among the schoolchildren, thus producing a generation that believes in the vision of its nation and aligns itself towards that vision.
The program has three dimensions: abilities to create an innovative personality; morality to promote such ideals as prayer timely observance, honesty, truthfulness, benevolence, tolerance; and management to acquire personal and practical skills such as mind mapping, teamwork, smart goal setting, and executive planning.
The program's staff are trying to help the trainees realize that insightful strategies are key to success, have a positive self-image, enjoy work even under pressure, be proactive and open-minded, master the art of dialogue, pursue flexibility and problem-solving techniques, be aware of consciousness and the subconscious, deal with his strengths and weaknesses by perceiving his own schema, be interpersonally intelligent and interactive by perceiving others' schemata, understand the negative and positive aspects of problems, know how to shift from the negative to the positive aspects, and assimilate and copy success stories through modeling.
Influential as they are, the teachers and parents are also covered by this program, to enable them to bring the young men and women up in a positive and constructive way. So far, the program has been executed in 12 independent schools for 962 beneficiaries, as follows: 393 teachers, 139 parents, and 430 students.
Rashid bin Saad Al-Mohannadi, Director, QRC Social Development Department, said, "ADEPTS is a developmental project intended toward the human development goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, by developing Qatar's future generation of creative citizens, leaders, and decision-makers. It comprises a series of interactive lectures and educational workshops that deal with different topics and issues related to the lives of the youth, solve their problems, broaden their minds, and instill useful attitudes and thoughts into them, building upon their experiences, tendencies, and mental and age-related faculties." To that end, Al-Mohannadi added, diverse methods of teaching are used such as discussion, experimentation, role-playing, group learning, and extracurricular activities. "This combines together the educational aims, personal innovation, and hands-on practice, instilling into their minds the desirable values and attributes that would be beneficial for them both now and in the future.
