Thousands of Kuwaiti students are flocking from various US states to San Francisco to take part in the 31st convention of the National Union of Kuwait Students (NUKS), US Branch, due to get underway, officially, later on Thursday.
Jaafar Al-Musawi, member of the conference steering committee, said in a statement to KUNA the gathering would be an opportunity for the students to interact, make acquaintances and exchange knowledge. Moreover, they can interact with the attending personalities, politicians and academic figures.
San Francisco was chosen as venue of the conference due to several factors, namely moderate weather, available airports of close proximity and large hotels. The chosen one has a capacity to accommodate some 4,000 students together.
NUKS's general assembly, due next Friday, will be an opportunity to examine works and performance of the students' various coalitions. The board will tender resignation at end of the assembly, to be followed with six-hour voting to elect a new administrative council.
Salwan Al-Marzoug, an engineering student studying in California told KUNA that she had attended all NUKS' conferences over the past four years. "I sense like being at home when taking part in the conference which also includes diverse entertainment, political and economic programs," she said.
Al-Marzoug indicates that she is particularly interested in the musical and poetic activities, held on the conference sidelines.
Turki Al-Ajmi, a student in mechanical engineering in Tennessi, says that he has made several friends as a result of his participation in the annual convention.
He praised the union for conveying complaints to the concerned state officials, offering facilities for the students, such as its success in hiking health insurance.
