Abu Dhabi University recently sent 19 students who were enrolled in the International Business Management course to Washington D.C and New York City, as part of an interactive and intensive study abroad program organized in collaboration with Georgetown University and George Washington University in the United States. Offered within the University's summer semester, the International Business Management course commenced last Sunday (June 23) with lectures on Abu Dhabi University's campus, after which the 19 students travelled to the United States to attend lectures and seminars on international business management, as well as participate in company visits to several international companies, giving the students a better perspective on the theories and practices of international management. Concluding on July 7th, the study abroad course aims to prepare students to be able to assess the economic, social, political, and cultural issues that result from globalization and the impact of these external forces on international business firms, as well as have the ability to develop techniques in analyzing management challenges posed by international business. Commenting on the importance of this unique study abroad initiative, Dr. Nabil Ibrahim Chancellor of Abu Dhabi University explained that this is the first time that the University has organized this academic trip. "The fact that it was put together in collaboration with such prestigious universities such as Georgetown University and George Washington University; solidifies ADU's continuous efforts of developing and exploring new areas of cooperation with world-renowned academic institutions in the field of education, scientific research and student exchange. This is clearly reflected in more than 50 partnerships that connect the University with various higher education institutions and research centers from around the world in Asia, Europe and the United States. We are always keen to benefit from their experiences and we look forward to the outcome of this academic trip which will enable students to link the theoretical knowledge they receive in the classrooms with the practical applications of international business management they will experience on this trip", said Dr. Ibrahim. On his part, Dean of Abu Dhabi University's College of Business Administration, Dr. Jacob Chacko asserted that the importance of this academic initiative is that it isn't limited to lectures on international business in Georgetown University and George Washington University. "Students will also visit the Library of Congress, the Kennedy Center in Washington, as well as take part in field trips to some of the world's top international companies that have been included in the "Fortune 500" list. The study abroad course will also equip students with the skills needed to develop the application of international management techniques by providing practical solutions in functional areas such as strategy, marketing, human resources, finance and operations, in addition to using the analytical tools of international business to evaluate the trends of trade between GCC countries and international economies", added Dr. Chacko. Following Abu Dhabi University's emphasis on interactive and engaging curriculum, the study abroad international business management course was designed to include students in the learning process. Dr. Sherine Farouq, Assistant Professor of Accounting in ADU's College of Business Administration University said: "One of the elements that distinguish this academic trip is that it relies heavily on students' active participation as opposed to being passive recipients of information. Students will be expected to provide reports on their visits and take part in discussions with their counterparts from the universities they're visiting. Dr. Farouq also lauded the efforts of the UAE's Embassy in Washington D.C for their efforts and support in organizing the study abroad program to ensure the students have an outstanding academic experience that enriches their personalities.
