Eastern Province Gov. Prince Saud bin Naif was the guest of honor at the graduation ceremony at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) recently.
The event was held at the stadium on the university’s Dhahran campus. The ceremony included both first semester graduates and candidates for graduation in both second semester and summer semester. The total number of graduates was 1,561 students with 1,147 receiving bachelor’s degree, 365 masters and 49 Ph.Ds.
At the ceremony, KFUPM President Dr. Khaled S. Al-Sultan expressed his pride to all KFUPM members. He said that the governor’s attendance was considered recognition of the university and its role in the rehabilitation and preparation of human resources to perform the role expected in the production and service sectors.
“The governor’s attendance is the manifestation of the great attention given to education by our government under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif and Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman,” he said.
“This interest stems from a deep conviction in the role of education in the preparation of human resources who are committed to high principles, maintaining good values, keeping up with the latest developments and conscious of their role in the nation’s development.”
According to Al-Sultan, the university’s commitment to update the educational process and its keenness to reach international standards is a distinct mark of the university movement, which has been committed since its establishment, to excellence.
“The support from the government has enabled it to apply the latest education techniques, attracting qualified professors and pursuing what is of concrete impact in scientific research,” he said. “All of these benefit the student who gets the proper rehabilitation and training that enables him, when graduated, to keep up with developments in science and technology, and contribute to overall development.”
He said that the university was keen to have its graduates distinguish themselves not only but also morally, and to possess the required skills which the labor market requires. “In pursuit of this, KFUPM established a program to develop the necessary skills for improving students’ thinking and behavior, preparing them for the labor market requirements and helping them to succeed and excel in their study and their employment,” he added. The program focuses on studying the labor market’s needs regarding the graduates’ excellence and effective performance skills.
He expressed his hope that the university would make more achievements in the coming years and he conveyed his sincere congratulations to the graduates, thanking parents and teachers who had contributed to their excellence.
