Prince Saud bin Naif, governor of the Eastern Province, has asserted the keenness of the province to inform the local and international community of the services provided by King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), as well as highlighting the achievements and patents of the university.
He said this at a meeting held recently in Dammam, where the governor received Khaled bin Saleh Al-Sultan, rector of KFUPM, as well as its deans.
Prince Saud praised the achievements and research of the Dhahran Techno Valley, stressing that KFUPM is one of the important institutions in the field of scientific research and achievement.
He said that many of the leaders of the Kingdom are graduates of this prestigious university, noting that all Saudi citizens are proud of the achievements of this university.
The governor said: “KFUPM’s academic staff shall maintain this outstanding and prestigious global level achieved by the university,” noting that the university is one of the most important factories producing the minds of scientists and creators in the Kingdom.
Dean of KFUPM Khaled Al-Sultan submitted a report on the new academic year, development plans, and future projects of the university.
KFUPM recently ranked first in the Arab world according to the QS World University Rankings. It also ranked fourth globally in terms of patents, with 126 patents in 2015 compared to 40 patents in 2007. There are still 225 patents awaiting grant, Al-Sultan said.
He said: “The number of students who enrolled in the summer semester reached more than 4,500 for the first time, in addition to 2,250 students accepted for the current academic year.”
Al-Sultan thanked Prince Saud for his unwavering support for the university and his wise directives that aim to achieve the interest of the university and its students.
