The Sharjah Directorate of Public Works (DPW) recently announced the temporary closure of the University Bridge in Al Maleeha area to carry out maintenance work. The bridge will be closed for four months from Thursday. The temporary closure is part of the DPW objectives to improve road infrastructure and conduct maintenance work on roads.The work on the road will include maintenance of the damaged asphalt. The maintenance will be divided into two phases. In the first phase, the damaged areas of the bridge will be evaluated and the best possible solution adopted. The DPW in co-operation with Sharjah Police has placed instructive signboards to guide motorists on alternative routes to be used during the closure period. Motorists coming from Industrial Area No.5 should use the Land of Institutes Bridge to reach University City. Motorists heading for the bypass road should use the rear gates of the University City and the road located between Al Nouf and Gareina area till they reach the bridge of the institute and from there they can reach the bypass road. DPW urged motorists to strictly abide by the instructions on the signboards. Any motorist wishing to suggest or comment about the bridge closure should call the hotline number of the DPW, 80086767.
