President of the University of Bahrain (UoB) Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Janahi said the establishment of the Toastmasters Club at the university would increase the students’ speaking skills and fluency. He described the new club as an added value to the students’activities, expressing hope it will contribute to boosting the students’ oration skills. On his part, Dean of the Students Affairs Dr. Adnan Al Timimi said the inauguration of the club which has 31 member students is in line with the ongoing efforts to promote the culture of communication and brush up the speaking skills. On her part, the club’s Vice President for Educational Affairs Dr. Thuraya Juma’a said the Toastmasters Club grants the opportunity to acquire a practical experience in oration, administrative leadership and communication skills through accredited educational curricula and in an enjoyable way. She added that the educational programme at the club starts by granting the member two books: the first contains ten projects to learn the oration art and the second teaches leadership skills. She also explained that as soon as the member has completed the projects in the first book and forwarded them to the international organisation, he/she will receive the Competent Communicator certificate while the second book will enable him/her to obtain the Competent Leader certificate. The members can also pursue their learning to more advanced levels until receiving the Distinguished Leader title, Dr. Thuraya revealed, calling on any student who has queries to visit UOB Toastmasters page on Facebook or @UOBToastmasters on Twitter.
