Up to five students of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) will do summer internships at prestigious US institutions like as Harvard with the varsity signing a MoU with the Sir Syed Education Society of North America (SSESA), a statement said Saturday. The MOU was signed by AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. (retd) Zameer Uddin Shah, during his visit to the US. Under the MoU, SSESA will arrange the summer research internship of AMU students in laboratories at top institutions such as Harvard University, Boston University and University of Chicago, among others. Up to five students can be supported each year and they will be selected through a rigorous and transparent merit based screening system. Both AMU and SSESA will aim to make the first batch of internships available by summer 2014, the statement said. The SSESA is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that currently administers the annual Sir Syed Emerging Scholar Award that provides meritorious AMU students and alumni with financial assistance and mentoring towards admission to graduate programs in the US.
