President of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer reviewed here on Monday the experience of 'Bayt Abdullah Children's Hospital' with officials of Harvard University.
Al-Sayer, who heads the Board of Directors of Bayt Abdullah Children's Hospital said in his speech during a ceremony marking the 'Arab week of Harvard University', that this project is unique in the Middle East Project.
The Bayt Abdullah Childrenآ’s Hospice (BACH) in Sulaibikhat, Kuwait, is the only palliative care center in the Middle East, and one of the largest in the world, dedicated exclusively to children with life-threatening or life-limiting illness.
He pointed out that the facility seeks to ease tension, emotion and fear associated with the admission of the sick child to the hospital because of the distance and separation from home, family and friends and to ensure that the sick child feel at home as doctors and nurses are dressed casually.
Al-Sayer said that the idea behind the facility is to make it a substitute for the sick children's original home and their families who need support to live a decent and virile life, as the facility includes games, recreational and residential facilities for comfort and advanced emergency health care.
He pointed out that Bayt Abdullah is a project which offers its services to all free of charge, noting that the aim of the project is to provide support for those who are expected to die when they were children, as well as to provide support for their families in an intimate atmosphere.
Al-Sayer said that the project has received peerless praise and admiration from participants from different countries of the world.
