Sixty-two Cambodian students have gotten annual scholarships for their bachelor's and master's degrees in various universities in China, officials said Tuesday.
Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Bu Jianguo and Cambodian Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron delivered the scholarships to the awardees at a ceremony held at the Chinese embassy in Phnom Penh.
The students will study in different majors, including economics, information and communication technologies, architecture, engineering, agriculture, political science and international relations.
Ambassador Bu said the 62 awardees are among 150 Cambodian students received scholarships from China for 2015.
"China sees human capital as one of the top priorities for national development and always pays high attention to the development of human resources in Cambodia," she said at the ceremony.
"I believe that you will become valuable assets for Cambodia when you graduate your studies."
She said more than 2,000 Cambodian students have either graduated from or been studying in China.
Hang Chuon Naron expressed gratitude to China for helping develop human resources for Cambodia.
"The scholarships clearly show China's active contribution to human capital development in Cambodia," he said, advising the awardees to study hard in order to bring back knowledge for national development.
