The Legal and Judicial Studies Center of the Ministry of Justice signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the fields of training and legal qualification with the British University of Queen Mary of London, in the presence of HE Minister of Justice Dr. Hassan bin Lahan Al-Mohannadi.
Under the MoU, signed by Fatima Abdulaziz Bilal, Director of the Legal and Judicial Studies Centre at the Ministry of Justice, and Dr. David Sadler, Vice President of Queen Mary University of London, the two sides will cooperate in all legal, academic and professional fields to prepare and qualify Qatari lawyers in various legal disciplines as well as to exchange documents, publications, scientific research and other means that can contribute to the development of legal knowledge and skills.
The two parties are also to cooperate in the curricula and training programs, legal qualification adopted by the parties, exchange of professors and trainers, and organize programs of mutual visits for students and professors.
In her speech on the occasion of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, Fatima Bilal stressed the importance of the Memorandum of Cooperation, which culminated in more than a year of in-depth discussions between the two parties to maximize the expertise and knowledge provided by Queen Mary University for researchers and legal experts in general to suit the training needs of Qatari cadres.
She added that the signing of this Memorandum was intended to provide the legal environment suitable for preparing and qualifying a distinguished legal generation in accordance with the latest academic programs and to raise the scientific and practical level to achieve the vision of the wise leadership in preparing the national competencies in an integrated preparation.
The skills of Qatari jurists in English have been taken into consideration, she noted, adding that this approach has been added to compulsory training courses for jurists. Under this plan, the outstanding lawyers will be offered complementary courses in Britain and America to enhance their legal language. The agreement, she said adds to the list of partners of the Legal and Judicial Studies Center a leading legal training center and a platform for the British legal experience.
For his part, Dr. David Sadler, Vice President of Queen Mary University, London, said: "We are delighted to sign this first agreement with the Legal and Judicial Studies Centre at the Ministry of Justice, stressing that the University of London Law School - Queen Mary is ready to put its academic and legal experience before the various Qatari jurists with their specialization, whether those working in the judiciary, the legal profession or the public prosecution, or the legal researchers in government agencies and the various institutions for training and rehabilitation that are appropriate and consistent with the national vision in this regard.
He added that the University is following with interest the legislative renaissance witnessed by Qatar in various fields, pointing out that this agreement will provide a scientific framework and an appropriate environment to provide excellent training opportunities for Qatari lawyers through the curricula and programs that have been adopted and agreed upon.
