Professor Arnoud De Meyer, President of Singapore Management University (SMU), made a courtesy call on China's Vice Minister for Education and Chairman of China Scholarship Council (CSC) Hao Ping on Oct. 16, 2013 to discuss PhD program collaborations. At the meeting, Professor De Meyer also met Mrs. Liu Jinghui, CSC Secretary-General, and other officials from China’s Ministry of Education (MOE). SMU will work closely with China MOE and CSC to provide partial scholarships to high quality mainland China PhD candidates to do PhD co-supervision program at SMU and to pursue SMU PhD programs. SMU has made great progress in academic research since its establishmen in 2000. For example, SMU is ranked 4th Globally in Econometrics by the Tilburg University Top 100 Worldwide Economics Schools Research Ranking based on research contribution in 2009-2012. Professor James Tang, Dean of SMU School of Social Sciences, and Andrew Chin, Head of SMU China Desk, joined SMU President in the meeting with China’s Vice Minister Hao and CSC.
