The parents of a student who died after seeking on-campus treatment for an injury have filed a wrongful death suit against the University of Texas at Arlington. Min Gu Choi died of a pulmonary embolism, or blood clot, July 10 -- 11 days after injuring his knee while engaging in sports, and eight days after first seeking treatment at the campus health services facility for his knee injury, the Fort Worth Star Telegram reported Tuesday. Choi, an engineering student, was 21 when he died at North Hills Hospital in North Richland Hills. The lawsuit, which does not specify which sport Choi was playing when he injured his knee, alleges Choi initially sought treatment at the campus health facility July 2 and was told to go home and rest, even though his vital signs were abnormal and his knee was swollen and he was in pain, the newspaper said. The lawsuit alleges he returned to the facility July 9 and was sent home again, even though his vital signs were again abnormal. He went to the hospital emergency room that night and died the next day. His parents, Young Ok Choi and Oh Soon Choi, are seeking $8 million each in the lawsuit.
