Chief Prosecutor of the Muhrarraq Governorate Abdulla Al-Dossary has announced that the High Criminal Court has issued its verdict jailing Maryam Al-Khawaja for one year with immediate effect.
Al-Khawaja was tried over charges of assaulting two policewomen at the Bahrain International Airport, causing them injuries.
The Public Prosecution launched an investigation into the case after it had been notified about the incident by the Bahrain International Airport Police Directorate.
The report indicated that the suspect assaulted the two officers, he said, noting that the injuries were proved by two medical reports.
The Public Prosecution heard the witnesses' statements, quizzed the defendant, in the presence of her lawyer, and referred her to the competent court of charges of assaulting on-duty public employees.
