China has about 250,000 special booths, stations and other institutions at grassroots level to protect women's rights, according to a document issued at a national meeting on Friday.
A telephone hotline is also available in over 2,800 counties and districts to receive reports of violations, said the document issued at the national meeting on women's rights protection.
Despite these efforts, however, the document said there are still problems such as those regarding women's career paths, employment opportunities for female college graduates, and the rights of rural women whose husbands have left home to work in cities.
Some women still suffer from poverty, sexual abuse or domestic violence, and these problems need addressing, the document said.
Song Xiuyan, vice president of the All-China Women's Federation, also called for more work to be done in local communities to assist women and their families.
