Preparations are in full swing in Bahrain to mark the International Day of Older Persons, which falls on October 1 each year. The United Nations (UN) celebrates the annual day to recognize the contributions of older persons and to examine issues that affect their lives.
Bahrain will mark the global event in style, hosting an Arab forum under the slogan "Towards a secure future for elderly people". Bahrain Society for Elderly Care is organising the symposium on the sidelines of the distribution of the Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali Al-Khalifa Award.
Bahrain Society for Elderly Care Honorary Chairman Khalifa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al-Khlalifa directed the organisation committee to ensure the participation of the relevant authorities in the pan-Arab forum. Bahrain Society for Elderly Care Chairman Ahmed Mohammed Al-Banna paid tribute to Khalifa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al-Khalifa for patronising the award.
Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE, Egypt, Morocco, and Yemen have already confirmed their participation in the upcoming symposium. They will be represented respectively by Prince Salman Social Centre, Omani Society for the Friends of the Elderly, Kuwaiti Ministry of Social Affairs, Qatari Foundation for the Elderly, Dubai-based Al-Shawab Elderly Home.
Alexandria Society for Elderly Care (Egypt), Moroccan Mohammed V Solidarity Foundation Yemeni Al-Tawasul Foundation for Human Development will also take part. A panels of experts and consultants specialized in elderly-related issues will take part in the symposium and present a series of research papers.
GCC and Arab delegations will outlined their countries' experiences in dealing with issues related to the Elderly people. The organising committee has also scheduled field visits on the margins of the symposium.
The panel will issue a booklet featuring the biographies of the 2014 winners of the Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali Al-Khalifa Award. Social media users are showing great interest in the award on Instagram (Khalifa_Award), Twitter (Khalifa_Award) and Facebook (khalifa Bin Ali Alkhalifa_award) .
