Chilean President Michelle Bachelet on Thursday called for an end to violence against women in Latin America, saying it harms society.
"Violence against women in workplace and public sector is not the problem of the women who are the victims, but of all of us," Bachelet told a regional forum on violence against women.
In Chile, a third of women fall victim of some type of violence from a relative, partner or ex-partner, and 40 women die as a result of such violence each year, she noted.
She called for information campaigns to raise public awareness and support for the victims as well as punishment for perpetrators.
