The first conference of the Arab Media Women Union (AMWN) kicked off Sunday in Kuwait.
The conference, entitled, "Media and Violence", was opened by Kuwaiti Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah.
In a speech carried by Kuwait News Agency, the Kuwaiti Minister of Information spoke of the need to form a media strategy to stifle the rise of violence, at a time where social media is rife with turbulent content that could make youth condone such aggressive tendencies.
He urged all media outlets to join forces to stave off the mounting threat of violence, which is primarily a security concern in addition to a social issue.
On the strategy to address escalating violence, he noted that media outlets should employ the latest technological means to espouse such virtues as benevolence, forgiveness and moral conduct.
