Head of the National Council for Woman (NCW) Mervat Tellawi has said that Islam promotes gender equality even more than international woman rights agreements.
The NCW is currently choosing candidates to run in the coming parliamentary elections, Tellawi told MENA on the sidelines of an international conference on the economic empowerment of women, held in Kuwait on Tuesday.
The three-day event is organized by the International Islamic Charitable Organization with the participation of ministers, scholars and intellectuals from Egypt and a number of other Arab and Islamic states.
The conference touched on the Muslim women rights and their role in building and improving communities and their contribution to development work.
