Mariam bint Mohammed Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of Social Affairs, has said that the UAE social policy is aimed at developing and promoting human resources through an integrated approach to meet its various needs, build capacity, and develop potentials, which in turn achieves social justice and social protection.
Al Roumi made these comments during the Emirates Social Award ceremony which was held yesterday at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Dubai. The award was launched by the ministry several years ago to recognise humanitarian and social efforts which positively affect and improve people's lives.
She said, "The ministry is one of the most important means for implementing social policy in the country, through the vision of building a cohesive society involved in social development.
"It provides social welfare to various groups including the elderly, orphans, and the disabled."
Among those who were honoured by the minister in the 'individual first class category', was Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and Founder and CEO of Kalimat Group, and President of the Sharjah Baby Friendly Campaign, for her leading role in social development, and contribution over the years in the implementation of many initiatives and social campaigns.
