Very few cases of vertical (mother-to-child) transmission of HIV have been detected lately in Russia, which means that such way of virus transmission has been almost stopped in the country, Russia’s Health Minister Veronika Skvortsova told a roundtable conference at Russia’s Public Chamber on Monday.
“We have practically ceased vertical HIV transmission in the country”, she said, adding that 99% of all new-born children and 85% of pregnant women in Russia currently receive AIDs-prevention therapy.
The minister stressed that the age of HIV-infected had altered and there were almost no more children with AIDS in the country.
