A newly married Pakistani couple were decapitated by the bride's family Thursday in what officials are describing as an honor killing.
The couple, 18-year-old Muawia Bibi and 26-year-old Sajjad Ahmed, were married June 18 against the wishes of Bibi's family, Punjab police official Mohammad Ahsanullah told CNN.
On Thursday, the couple were lured back to Bibi's family's village of Satrah, where they were tied up and killed. The family members turned themselves into police.
The United Nations estimates some 5,000 women die each year in honor killings throughout the world.
