A 63-year-old refugee woman from Afghanistan died on Saturday in Opatovac, eastern Croatia, near the border with Serbia, according to local police.
Croatian Ministry of Health confirmed that the woman fainted when she got off the bus which transported her and other refugees from Serbia to the reception center in Opatovac and doctors tried to reanimate her but in vain.
The causes of death were still unknown, but her family said that she was ill and had problems with her heart and lungs.
Her family expressed a wish that she be buried in the nearest Muslim cemetery, police said, adding they would make sure that this would be done in cooperation with the UNHCR and local authorities.
A total of 292,706 refugees and migrants have entered Croatia from the beginning of refugee crisis, according to the interior ministry.
