Emergency Ministry’s rescue workers have handed over to medics from Moscow a young woman hiker who suffered a skull injury on Mount Elbrus.
"At 02:00 on Saturday rescuers from the Elbrus high altitude search and rescue team lowered the injured hiker to the Verkhny Baksan community and handed her over to catastrophe medicine specialists, who are to take her to the republican clinical hospital in the city of Nalchik," a report on the website of Kabardino-Balkaria’s Emergencies Ministry department says.
The chief of the Elbrus high altitude search and rescue unit, Abdullakh Guliyev, told TASS earlier that a group of hikers from Moscow - four teenagers and six adults, were making a trek on foot in the Baksan Gorge.
"While the group was negotiating a mountain pass one of the young women had a fall and suffered a skull injury. She is unconscious," Guliyev said.
The search operation was held at an altitude of 3,000 meters, near the confluence of the Kyrtyk and Mkyara rivers.
The injured woman’s condition is grave, rescuers said.
