DNA evidence suggests a severed leg that washed ashore in St. Petersburg, Fla., belongs to a woman who has been missing for months, police said. Kelly Moriarty, 38, of Bradenton, Fla., disappeared in December along with 62-year-old Doris Carter of Plant City, the Bradenton Herald reported Wednesday. Carter's daughter told police the two women were romantically involved and she hadn't seen her mother since before Christmas, when Moriarty and Carter left together. The daughter said it was not uncommon for the women to disappear for extended periods of time. Moriarity's car was found on Dec. 29, two days after Moriarty's severed leg washed ashore in St. Petersburg. A police report said the car contained no evidence of a crime. Hillsborough County Sheriff's detectives said they are hoping someone will come forward with information that will help them learn what happened to the two women.
