A 14-year-old girl died Sunday by drowning in a icy pond in an area located between Faraya, northeast of Beirut, and the Kesrouan town of Oyoun al-Siman. The girl, Hiba Ali, was walking with her friends on a pond that had frozen over in an area that has witnessed heavy snowfall in the last few weeks, when the ice underneath her and one of her friends broke. They both fell into the pond. Ali’s companions were able to pull out her male friend, but failed to rescue her. A civil defense team arrived at the scene and pulled out the body of Ali.
