For those of us who won't get the chance to breathe in the sweet sea air of the Hamptons this summer, Carolina Herrera has bottled it and brought it to the UAE.The designer, who spent countless childhood summers on America's exclusive east coast resort village, has worked for the past year with the master perfumer Antoine Maisondieu to develop CH Men Sport, a scent encapsulating the sophisticated, sporty spirit of the seaside retreat. "Carolina spoke of the smell of the sand and wet wooden boats drying in the sun - so that's where I started," says Maisondieu. "It needed to be an elegant but masculine scent and have an addictive quality - so I used sandalwood and oak moss. I also added hints of vetiver and musk, and spices - mainly Szechuan pepper and juniper berries." Reminiscent of a long, iced summer drink one could imagine the stylish, Hamptons-habitual Kennedy clan sipping, the scent also has aromatic top notes of bergamot, grapefruit, sage and a twist of lime. To complement the fragrance, and capturing the timeless style of the hamlets' fashionable frequenters, a capsule wardrobe of 50 pieces will be released a few weeks ahead of its July launch. "It covers the whole range of fashion items you may need to enjoy the summer," says Javier Roces, the international marketing director for Carolina Herrera Fragrances, of the line which features bold nautical striped T-shirts and jumpers, plus classic-cut navy jackets piped in white. Although the scent and clothing range are, for now, available exclusively for men, designer towels and stylish canvas crew-inspired red bags bearing the brand's distinctive CHHC logo can be enjoyed by all. While the Hamptons may have a reputation for being the playground of the rich and famous, CH Men Sport and its ready-to-wear line are unpretentious and accessible to all. "I would describe it as fun and elegant with a twist," says Roces. "Gentlemanly in attitude with a sense of humour, which is the trademark of Herrera."
