A Moroccan court has refused to recognise the gender rights of a post-op bellydancer in Agadir, local media has reported. The performer, who was formerly known as Nur al-Din but now answers to Noor as a woman, underwent the sex change operation at a beauty clinic in Lausanne, Switzerland. Noor has insisted in a number of interviews that she is indeed a woman and has experienced the joys of motherhood since adopting her first child. Following the dispute, Moroccan television audiences were stopped from watching Noor perform on state-run TV. “Her whole performance was censored because she underwent an operation to convert her gender from male to female,” a disgruntled viewer said.
