Financial engineer Manahel Thabet
Aden - Arab Today

An interview with a Yemeni scholar in financial engineering and mathematics of quantum Manahel Thabet

Financial engineer Manahel Thabet said that the Arab women face more challenges nowadays than any other time, basically social obstacles and restrictions. Thabet added that she respects the Arab customs and traditions but also calls for the education of women.

She said that each woman has different circumstances than the others, though the passion and devotion can be the magical recipe of success because they can overcome all the obstacles.

Thabet said that the specialization is not always the only accurate way of success, noting that the Arabs like to classify things, although there may be a correlation between different fields of science. For example, you can find an engineer who likes philosophy or plays guitar, or an Arabic teacher who loves engineering, why not? She continued that there is an English term called "polymath" and it means "encyclopedic". For example, Da Vinci was a great painter, engineer and philosopher. Unfortunately, the Arab world lacks that kind of people who started to disappear globally too, she said.

Thabet pointed out that she agrees with those who say that money makes scientific success. She explained that the money can be used to finance research and technological development, noting that the knowledge creates the power of the developed countries. Japan is the poorest country in terms of mineral resources, though it the largest manufacturer of vehicles.

Thabet continued that she believes that the need generates creativity, noting that her passion of numbers has stimulated her to enter the world of mathematics and financial engineering.

She added that Khwarizmi was a great scientist who influenced her character, noting that he contributed to the creation of computer and mobile phones. "There are many great scientists who contributed to the prosperity of the world, such as Ibn Sina, Einstein, Marie Curie, Max Planck, Mancaowski and the favorite one for me Nicola Tesla," she said.

Thabet pointed out that the Arab media is preoccupied with politics and conflicts as well as entertainment programs, adding that there is a shortage of scientific content in media. She said that she refused to make interviews with many magazines because they always ask traditional questions related to fashion and hair styles.

Thabet revealed that she faced several challenges in terms of funding her scientific researches and those who negatively criticized her from behind computer screens.

She concluded that she is the biggest critic and observer of herself, adding that she began her career from scratch and she does not care about the opinion of others.
