Casablanca - Raja Battoui

A meteorite stone has been found in Morocco A meteorite stone has been found to have landed in Aousserd, a small and rural town in Morocco. Abdul Rahman Abha - The Head of the Laboratory Study of Crystals and Minerals and the Head of the Scientific Astronomy Club at the University of Ibn Zahr in Agadir told Arabstoday: “A resident discovered around 300gm of meteorite stone with a white glowing colour. I was then called up to examine the finding and discovered it to be a carbon meteorite. It has a great scientific importance because it contains the organic ingredients that form the origin of life in our solar system. This type of meteorite contains a very fine diamond – due to the intensity of collision, the carbon turned into tiny diamond crystals."
Meanwhile, a researcher in the science of meteorites assured that it is expected to send a scientific team composed of researchers and students from the University of Ibn Zahr to the area in which the meteorite was found with modern equipment to detect its residues that may be present in the suburb of Aousserd. The researcher noted the possibility of finding some meteorite pieces buried in the sand and will need more time to carry out drilling and exploration operations to search all the surrounding areas.
He explained that this type of meteorite comes from the asteroid belt, which exists in the orbit between Saturn and Mars, when these asteroids collide with each other their fragments head toward the orbit of Earth.
He added: "The carbon meteorite has a great scientific importance because it was formed during the formation of the sun and was not influenced by internal or external factors such as Earth.  Therefore, it could provide an idea about ??the stages of the formation of the solar system, as well as information on chemical content before the formation of the solar system, and explains how life began on Earth.”
He called for the establishment of a national museum in order to preserve the meteorites, as Morocco became its favorite destination and has been named after the town in was discovered in. It is considered a substance that can be used in research and scientific studies without any expenses.
A part of the two Martian meteorites that fell last year southeast of Morocco was sold at a high price at London Museum.
