The region's biggest ‘smart' control screen to monitor the functioning of all power production plants is now fully operational in Sharjah. The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) control room in the Nasseriya area was built at a cost of Dh30 million.
The screen that monitors the functioning of the power plants round the clock is considered to be the biggest in the Middle East, the Sewa has said.
The control room was inaugurated on Tuesday by Dr Rashid Alleem, Director-General of the Sewa.
The project is aimed at minimising technical glitches in Sharjah's power plants to prevent outages.
Dr Alleem said: "The Sewa's smart monitoring screen will ensure stability in the functioning of the power networks as it will help engineers detect glitches and overloading issues so that they are addressed before they actually result in power outages.” He pointed out that the production capacity of power production plants in Sharjah reached 2,900MW through 53 production units. "This is one of the many projects carried out by the Sewa to use advanced technology to ensure best services.”
Osman Al Mass, director of the control and monitoring department at Sewa, said all the power plants in Sharjah are connected to the control and monitoring system. Monitoring is done via communication cameras with employees working in the plants to ensure quick response in cases of emergency.
