Dubai - Arabstoday

This year's Gitex exhibition will focus on hacking and computer security in the wake of cyber attacks on a host of global companies and governments, organisers say. They say that with the number of infected computers across the Middle East on the rise — a 44 per cent increase from 2009 to 2010 — and the recent spate of hacking incidents, addressing issues of security and protection is paramount. Gitex 2011, taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre from October 9 to 13, will feature an education section specifically targeting companies that want to make sure their systems are more secure. It will tackle issues such as web phishing, mobile phones and credit card scanning and cloning, and identity theft. Live demonstrations will give visitors advice on how to defend against attacks. Article continues below Other areas of focus this year include cloud computing, mobile applications and smart phone technology. Organisers say the Middle East and Africa are set to be among the top two global smartphone markets in the next four years.
