Iranian researchers at Semnan University, Central Iran, have designed and built a telescopic hiking stick generating electricity, using multi-layer piezoelectricity, an official at the university said.
Davoud Maroufi, an official in charge of Science and Technology Park of the university, said the stick has been designed by two mechanical engineering students and a faculty member of the university, the Iranian students' news agency reported.
The device can be used as an essential tool for hiking, and resolve certain problems including providing heating, cooking, heating food and charging batteries.
The stick energy is supplied by its piezoelectric cells as the mountaineer regularly hits the device.
The stick has been registered as an indigenous invention in Iran.
