A modern low-cost sewage treatment plant was inaugurated Saturday in Borg el Arab City, western Alexandria.
The plant was inaugurated by Minister of Scientific Research Sherif Hammad, and it used state-of-the-art technology in retreating sewage water to be used for irrigation.
Hammad said it was the first plant of its kind in Egypt and the Middle East.
It was built in cooperation with Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology, Tohoku University and New Urban Communities Authority.
The move came in compliance with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives for universities to be involved in the society.
