The Maghreb committee in charge of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) held an extraordinary meeting, on Tuesday in Rabat, Morocco, to discuss a research project on the creation of a Maghreb network of broadband telecommunications. It reviewed the issue of setting up a specialised Maghreb structure to be tasked with ensuring the management and operation of this network, in accordance with the priorities of the Maghreb integration process. This committee tasked with supervision and research offices entrusted with conducting the study should prepare a paper on the financing of this Maghreb network before submitting it for approval to the Maghreb Ministerial Council of the Post and Information and Communication Technology. The African Development Bank (AfDB) provides the major part of the funding of this study and that of a second Maghreb study on the legislative frameworks of ICT in AMU member countries.
