A semi-annual government report, presented to the House of Representatives, said the vision of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) aims to turn the country into a global digital society.
The vision depends on providing the means of knowledge, improving the infrastructure for telecommunications networks, and developing the telecommunications industry and information technology, the report added.
The ministry was working on 44 projects and three initiatives from March to September 2016, including four completely implemented projects, the report said.
Performance measurement indicators revealed that the telecommunications sector contributed to the country's gross domestic product (at constant prices) by 2.9 percent in 2015/2016, the same number recorded in 2014/2015, while investments pumped to the sector in 2015-2016 amounted to EGP 23.6 billion, compared to EGP 18.95 billion in the previous year, it added.
