A telecommunication and information technology senior officials meeting (TELSOM) of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) hosted by Myanmar is due to kick off in the capital of Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday. The ASEAN TELSOM, attended by representatives of communications and IT ministries of ASEAN members, will adopt projects for 2011-2012 cooperation with dialogue partners and ASEAN ICT budget, said official sources. The two-day TELSOM will prepare a joint declaration on ASEAN ICT cooperation which will be released during the 11th ASEAN Telecommunication and Information Technology Ministers Meeting (TELMIN) to be convened on Thursday and Friday. The first ASEAN TELSOM was held in Brunei in October 2000 and the first TELMIN in Malaysia in July 2001. The meetings were then jointly and alternatively held in ASEAN member countries in alphabetical order.
