Samsung LED Co., a unit of Samsung Electronics Co., said Monday that its middle-power light-emitting diode (LED) package products received a key certificate from the U.S. government, which will give the company access to broader U.S. markets. Samsung LED became one of the two companies to pass the LM80, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star label for LED products, which certifies energy-efficient goods, it said in a release. The company is an LED-making affiliate of Samsung Electronics Co. The certification, which is given to highly qualified goods after some 6,000 hour-long test, is one of the most trusted barometers in the LED industry, Samsung said. The certification is required for supply of products to the U.S. public procurement market, it added. The company is expected to receive tax benefits and wider access in the U.S. market that is expected to hit US$2.04 billion this year thanks to the certificate, it added.
