Winners of the 14th edition of His Highness Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Informatics Award were honored and thrilled to seize this Award that aims at promoting information technology in the Arab World.
The winners expressed their excitment in various press statements after meeting His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at Bayan Palace on Wednesday.
CEO of the winner website "Bahrain e-Government Authority (EGA)" Mohammad Ali Al-Qaed said that the Award encourages competition and creativity in the technological and digital worlds.
He said that his winning project is the backbone of his country where 329 government and private bodies offer their services to the public. He added that Bahrain e-Government has received more than 81 hits since its launch in 2007; financial transactions took place on the website amounted to 85 million Bahraini dinars.
Meanwhile, winner of the smartphone application "Ayat" Dean of e-Transactions and Communication King Saud University Dr Esam Al Wagait said that he will carry a tremendous amount of responsibility on his shoulders after this win to keep the app up-to-date to serve Muslim communities everywhere.
He added that the "Ayat" app has exceeded the two-million downloads and it is an extension of a website of the same name that provides the public with translation and interpretation of the Holy Quran in many languages.
Founder and CEO of "WebTeb" Dr. Mahmoud Kaiyal from Jordan, whose app and website won the award, expressed his appreciation and pointed out that this award would encourage him to provide better health, medical and wellness information and to arrange a better communication with users and doctors.
WebTeb is the largest Arabic-language health and wellness site, with the most traffic, content, tools and doctor listings, serving over 300 million Arabic language speakers.
