South Korea's LG Electronics says it will unveil an unbreakable and flexible plastic OLED display panel at an industry exhibition in Canada. The technology, to be introduced at the Society for Information Display's Display Week 2013, comes at a crucial time when smart devices are being used more than ever and at increased risk for damage from drops, hits and other accidents, LG said in a release. At 5 inches the flexible screen is aimed directly at the smartphone market, although the technology can likely be scaled up for use in tablet computers. In April, LG announced it would take a smartphone with a flexible OLED screen to market in the fourth quarter of this year. LG said it would also use the Vancouver event to introduce 5-inch and 7-inch HD LCD panels based on Oxide TFT technology, yielding thin, high transparency and low power consumption displays. The smaller of the two will feature a bezel that's 1mm wide, enabling a borderless frame when installed in smartphones, the company said.
