Amazon has announced a trio of new Fire tablet computers in Los Angeles, including two with larger screens to compete with Apple's iPad tablet. The larger models -- the Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HD 4G -- both have 8.9-inch screens with 1920x1200 resolution and a polarizing filter and anti-glare technology for improved color and contrast from any viewing angle, Amazon said on its Web site. Both run a 1.4-gigahertz dual-core processor and come with dual stereo speakers and a front-facing camera for video calls. The 4G LTE version is priced at $499 with 32 gigabytes of memory, or $599 with 64 gigabytes, while the WiFi-only version is priced at $299 with 16 gigabytes or $369 with 42 gigabytes. Amazon is replacing its original 7-inch Kindle fire with the Kindle Fire HD, upping the screen resolution to 1280x800 with the same filter and anti-glare technology as the larger Fires. It is powered by a 1.2-gigahertz dual core processor and has stereo speakers and a front facing camera like the larger devices. With 16 gigabytes of memory and WiFi, the price is $199, while $249 brings 32 gigabytes of memory.
