The LG Widescreen EA93 is a bold attempt by the company to set its series of monitors apart from the current crop. This 29-inch screen features an aspect ratio of 21:9 which is in line with what we see at movie theatres. For reference, the current lineup of monitors and TVs have an aspect ratio of 16:10 or 16:9. Despite its size at 29 inches, the screen isn’t so large that it becomes unusable and this is a direct result of its aspect ratio. For the uninitiated, a screen’s size is measured diagonally and not vertically or horizontally. The screen has a resolution of 2560 x 1080 which means you can open up two full sized windows and line them up side by side to multitask. Think referencing two documents, having your Twitter window opened on the side or watching a cricket match while you finish up that report. And if you’re still not convinced, imagine opening an excel sheet that scrolls all the way to column AM at 100 per cent zoom level; a tad technical yes but extremely useful for the suits. For a screen with so much virtual real estate, it’s unfortunate that it doesn’t rotate to offer a portrait orientation. However, you can split the screen in up to four different segments, which works surprisingly well. Extra oomph The Dual Link Up feature will let you connect two different video sources to be viewed on the same screen. This is made possible by the numerous inputs offered on the LG EA93 including DVI, HDMI and Display Port. And if that isn’t enough, the screen allows for MHL compatible mobile devices to be connected to the screen so you can watch your movies and pictures or play games on the big screen. The stereo sound speakers bring that extra oomph to the experience. The screen is extremely bright as well at 300nit and offers fantastic viewing angles. If the capabilities are impressive, the aesthetics are just as good too. The screen features a thin bezel around and has an extremely slim form factor. At the bottom right are soft touch buttons that let you navigate the menu and configure the options. All the connectivity options are tucked away at the back. However all of this comes at a steep price. The LG EA93 costs a whopping Dh3,000, which is double of what many other decent sized screens would cost.
