Grand Mufti of Al Quds and Palestine Sheikh Mohamed Hussein urged on Sunday the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to intervene to protect Al Aqsa mosque before it is too late.
In statements, he called for trying Israeli occupation authorities in an international tribunal for repeated desecration of the holy place and attacks on Muslim worshipers with live and rubber-coated bullets.
Continued attacks against the mosque would turn the region into a time bomb and risks an imminent religious war, he warned.
He called on Palestinians to head for the mosque all through the week to stand against Israeli attempts to desecrate it.
In a press release, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry urged the Arab and Muslim world to save Al Quds as well as Muslim and Christian holy places in the holy city from Israeli attempts to Judaize them.
It condemned the almost-daily storming of Al Aqsa mosque by settlers backed by Israeli guards.
Al Quds needs a firm international stand against Israeli violations and systematic measures meant to destroy the two-state solution, it added.
