Amman - KUNA

Kuwait's Sheikh Abdullah Al-Nouri Charity Society organized on Friday evening a ceremony to honor the winners of the 18th annual contest of memorizing the Holy Quran.
In collaboration with Jordan's society for the conservation of the Holy Quran, the Kuwaiti Society distributed awards among the winners in the presence of Kuwait Ambassador Dr. Hamad Al-Duaij, the Society's Board Chairman Eng. Jamal Al-Nouri, chairman of the Jordanian society Dr. Mohammad Al-Majali and Dr. Ahmad Nofal - the patron of the celebration.
Speaking to KUNA, Dr. Jamal Al-Nouri said this year's contest drew 3,000 participants, males and females, from various age categories and from various nationalities.
"Nearly 2,000 contenders succeeded in seven different stages of the competition," he said, expressing the Society's joy for bringing up a new Muslim generation to commitment to the values of the Holy Quran.
He praised the Jordanian society for the conservation of the Holy Quran as an ideal partner for his Society due to its long experience in this field.
Founded by a group of Kuwaiti philanthropic persons in 1981 and named after one of them, Al-Nouri charity is active in raising funds for relief efforts and the launching of educational, health and development non-profit projects in the Muslim world and beyond.
Since 1984, the society has organized Holy Quran contests in Kuwait, Egypt, Bangladesh, Somalia, Sudan, Mauritania, India and Pakistan, Al-Nouri added.
On his part, Dr. Mohammad Al-Qodah, from the Jordanian society, said the contest is growing year after year.
"The growing number of participants necessitated dividing the 18th edition of the contest into two stages," Al-Qodah said.
He expressed gratitude to Sheikh Abdullah Al-Nouri Charity Society for its noble contribution to the success of this year's contest.
The Jordanian society, founded in 1991, has 36 branches and more than 500 centers for Holy Quran teaching across Jordan.
